Water Lily Montessori Children's House Serving Ages 3-6

Our Primary Montessori Classroom Experience

There is nothing more beautiful and hope instilling than seeing children developing the confidence, self-esteem and agency as they engage in the meaningful and self-selected work in the Montessori environment. At Water Lily, we believe we are a community of learners that embraces our mistakes and welcomes the joy in our success.

During the day, children at Water Lily Montessori will have an uninterrupted work cycle in the classroom where they are free to choose work they've had a presentation on and repeat that work for as long as they desire during the work period. Children will be offered presentations individually or in small groups by the Teacher Leader/Guide. In the classroom children care for their environment, prepare their own snacks, eat lunch communally, garden, and explore the outdoors together.

There are four main work areas within the classroom environment – Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, and Mathematics. Practical Life materials aid in developing both independence and concentration; Sensorial materials assist in refining and developing the child’s senses. In the area of Language, we begin with a rich vocabulary of spoken language and then transition, as the child is ready, into writing and reading skills. The Mathematical activities approach fundamental mathematical concepts and the four operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. In addition to those main areas, we have cultural activities woven throughout the classroom environment that include geography, history, biology, science, music, and the arts.
